any of today's classrooms look more like your favorite coffee shop than a traditional class- room. Flexible seating, a student-centered classroom mod- el that provides a variety of seating choices, is the newest trend in classroom design. Popular arrangements include a variety of configurations of desks, tables, comfortable chairs, sofas, and pillows or rugs. Research has shown that providing students with differ- ent seating options helps them feel more empowered in the classroom and increases academic performance. But making the switch can be daunting. We reached out to ATPE members who have successfully implemented flex- ible seating in their classrooms to get their tips on how to make student-centered seating work in any classroom.
