atpe.org | 21 winter 2014 In Texas, several school districts have opted to allow selected employees to carry concealed frearms on campus. Most of these districts are situated in rural areas where residents feel that the presence of weapons on campus can deter violence and enable qualifed staf to quickly respond to active shooter situations, even before law-enforcement ofcials arrive on the scene. Texas's Guardian and School Marshal Plans can make it legal for employees to carry concealed weapons, and ATPE News recently visited Carthage ISD, in northeast Texas, to learn more about the community's reaction to guns on campus.
